A group of teenagers look to save their town from an invasion of North Korean soldiers. The city of Spokane, Washington is awakened by a North Korean paratrooper invasion. Marine Corps veteran Jed Eckert and his civilian brother, Matt, escape with a group of friends to an isolated cabin in the woods, where they witness the execution of their father at the hands of the ruthless Captain Cho. The brothers unite with their friends to form a guerrilla resistance group--the Wolverines--to drive the invaders from their home. A lot of the reviews here way are to negative. Sure, the original movie was better and yes the story has a potential that is not being used at its maximal capacity. But let's admit that the genre is what it is, a remake of a B-action movie. a lot worse is being thrown at us, so hold your horses on this one.

Just turn off your brain and enjoy seeing people shooting at people. Unless it's a really really smart movie and it wants to show the American audience that invaders with a superior army and technology who live in an ideological bubble and have no real connection with the land they are invading never will win the hearts and minds of the population and might rightfully loose in their endeavor. If so, the movie is quite brilliant. OK, no, that probably is not the case. But still. It's what it is and everyone could expect what it is: A mediocre action flick. This movie is all about patriotism. USA is the best and the rest of the world is stupid. American kids with basic training have no problem defeating good trained North Korean forces. Personally I liked Tomorrow, Whem The War Began more, which is the same kind of movie.

And why is a part of the population prisoned and the rest just living their lives.

I live in the Netherlands and at the moment there is a lot off fear for a war with Russia and I'm asking myself why that is. But if I watch many American action movies (like Red Dawn), TV-series (like the Last Ship and NCIS LA) and videogames you know why. America has never stopped seeing Russia or communism as the enemy, even after the fall of the Berlin Wall. But then again, America doesn't even trust their allies. Single-mindedly action-oriented to the point where Milius's film seems relatively ruminative. There's no indication that this is anything but set in modern day as of the time of filming/release. No. In the dissolution of the Soviet Union, from 1989 to '91, Russia ceased to be part of it; an event which over time drastically reduced any hostile motives Russia had with the Western bloc, leaving mainly only North Korea and Cuba, as well as (the far more powerful but far less extreme) mainland China, as the remnants of the Cold War and overall arms race (or ideological mockery) between Communists and Westerners. As such, for this story, the Soviet Union has been replaced by North Korea. It was speculated that an ex-Spetsnaz officer (the Spetsnaz being Russian special forces) would be in the film as a trained mercenary, though; yet little was known about him or how much we would see of him in the film. Yes, the People's Republic of China (PRC) was originally presented as the invading regime, but after pressure from the PRC government and studio concerns on how it could impact the international box office, the film was digitally altered in post-production to replace all the PRC flags, posters and dialogue with that of North Korea.
